26-Year-Old Woman Burned In E-Cig Explosion, As Additional E-Cigarette Lawsuit Cases Are Filed
July 27, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a NY Daily News article about a 26-year old Queens woman who suffered significant burns to her legs when her e-cigarette exploded in her pocket while she was driving her car. The debris from the exploded device subsequently lodged in the dashboard of her car. After the explosion, the victim was brought to Jamaica Hospital where she was treated for 3rd-degree burns. According to the article, she has had to use a cane and has been unable to work since the incident happened. The woman has retained the services of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman to represent her in the lawsuit she has filed against the manufacturer as well as the e-cigarette retailer that sold her the device.
The explosion involving the Queens woman is 1 of 7 that has been reported in New York since 2009, as per a timeline of explosions developed by TheProductLawyers.com. There was a similar case involving a 14-year old boy who sustained severe burns to his hands and lost eyesight in his left eye when an e-cig he was sampling exploded in his face. The father of the 14-year old boy has also hired Marc Freund to pursue legal action on behalf of his son. The case is currently on-going. It should be noted that the timeline developed by TheProductLawyers.com depicts 199 reported explosions of e-cigarettes since the time the devices were introduced into the consumer market.
Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman’s Attorney Marc Freund wished the victim a speedy recovery from the severe burns she suffered which also caused significant damage to her automobile. Freund also notes that it is alarming that the frequency of the explosions has increased so quickly.
