It is truly inspiring for all those who attend! The race is slated for September 16th, at the Jack Abernathy Park in Davison, MI. Start time is 11am.
Cerebral palsy is a common movement disorder caused by brain damage at birth. Cerebral palsy is the single most common childhood disability. It affects about 500,000 children in the United States, according to cerebralpalsy.org. Children with cerebral palsy often have difficulty gaining access to therapies that significantly improve their quality of life, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, stem cell therapy, ScoliSMART scoliosis therapy, Cuevas Medek therapy, and neurofeedback therapies. Since health insurances typically do not cover these therapies, many families cannot afford such treatment. Ireland’s Dream, a local 501c(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicates to raising money to help children with cerebral palsy gain access to such therapies.
Ireland’s Dream was founded by Dr. Megan Strauchman, a local physician and mother to a daughter with cerebral palsy. According to Dr. Strauchman, “many patients and their families cannot find or afford the therapies that seem to help most. Moreover, Ireland’s Dream helps families find the financial means to receive such treatments, through grants, donations, and less-known health insurances.” The ultimate goal of Ireland’s Dream is to build an independent medical center where all of these therapies may be received under one roof, where people can receive these treatments for little or no out-of-pocket cost.
