36-Year Old Man Dies In Sonoma Steel Beam Accident, As Personal Injury Lawyer Calls for Strengthened Safety Regulations

July 31, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a recent accident in California that cost a construction worker his life. A tragic incident took place on June 1st, according to SFGate.com, and ended fatally for a 36-year old construction worker. While helping to dismantle an A-frame tent that was part of a structure that housed the VIP Lounge at the BottleRock Festival, a steel beam arch fell and struck the man. He was rushed by paramedics to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by doctors. California OSHA officials are currently investigating the man’s death to determine if any safety regulations may have been violated at the site.

The job of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a federal regulatory agency, is to ensure the health and safety of workers in over 8 million worksites throughout the United States. OSHA works from 10 regional offices supported by 90 local area offices. OSHA has indicated that the “Fatal Four” leading causes of death on the job in 2014, one of which is being struck by objects, have been the cause of death for 500 workers.

An attorney with Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman, Thomas Moverman extended his condolences to the family of the victim and thanked the medical staff that tried to save him for their effort. Moverman hopes additional safety regulations will be put in place to ensure the safety of the nation’s construction workers.

It should be noted as well that the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has identified the third leading cause of death among construction workers is to be hit by objects or equipment, which was the case in the Napa accident. There were 73 individuals in 2014 that met their demise after being struck by an object or equipment that equates to 8 percent of all construction worker fatalities that occurred while on the job in 2014.
