Dangerous Side Effects Alleged In Invokana Lawsuits Throughout U.S. And Canada

March 08, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on current news regarding new-generation, type-2 diabetes drug Invokana lawsuits. The public has seen many headlines recently which discuss Invokana and dangerous side effects that the drug has been linked to; not just in the U.S., but in Canada and Europe as well. The drug has been the topic of much discussion and public controversy. In February, a new lawsuit was filed against the drug in the United States, while the European Medicines Agency issued not one but two public safety warnings to patients taking Invokana as well as the medical community in Europe.

Canada is noticing much the same. Reports state that toward the end of summer 2015, a patient from Ontario had stepped forward to file a class-action lawsuit against the drug. This plaintiff alleged that Janssen Pharmaceuticals (manufacturer of Invokana and subdivision of Johnson & Johnson corporation) had been aware of potential serious side effects connected to the drug, yet had neglected to adequately inform consumers or the medical community of these potential occurrences. In addition, this plaintiff claimed that the warning labels on the drug were insufficient.

In America, an Invokana lawsuit was filed as recently as February 10th, 2016. This case was filed in Louisiana under number 2:2016-cv-01189 and the plaintiff involved alleged that Invokana had caused him severe side effects. In details of this particular lawsuit, the plaintiff states that he started to take Invokana in July of 2014 in order to treat his type-2 diabetes. He continued to take the drug through February 2015. He claims that as soon as he stopped taking the drug, he suddenly suffered from diabetic ketoacidosis, a possibly life-threatening condition in which the bloodstream of the body contains too much toxic acid.

Another lawsuit in Canada discussed a different side effect now linked to Invokana use. The plaintiff, in this case, is a woman who used Invokana for about 8 months time when she discovered a news report concerning the risk for kidney failure and diabetic ketoacidosis which had become associated with Invokana use. The news report concerned her, and she reached out to her doctor immediately. The plaintiff alleges that the doctor ordered tests and confirmed that in just 8 months, the woman had entered the early stages of kidney failure.

The stories of these plaintiffs and the results of Invokana clinical studies and FDA adverse event reports regarding the drug have sparked concern in many.
