Bel Marra Health Details Popular Foods That May Reduce Energy

Bel Marra Health (www.BelMarraHealth.com), a company that offers specially formulated vitamins and nutritional products is weighing in on certain foods that may reduce energy.

Science has shown that five popular foods, which include oatmeal, nuts, fat-free flavoured yogurt, red wine and coffee, may actually be counterproductive for energy and make people feel more tired. “Some of the foods on this list are considered really healthy and some are even categorized as superfoods,” says Dr. Victor Marchione, spokesperson for Bel Marra Health. “However, it’s always important to know the full scope of how a food impacts one’s health and their overall state of being.”

Nuts are typically categorized as a superfood, yet they are also proven to reduce energy. This is due in part to the fact that nuts are high in fat, and although it’s a good kind of fat, it causes a person’s digestive system to work overtime, therefore leaving them with a feeling of lethargy. Oatmeal and flavoured yogurt are also two foods that despite being considered healthy and satisfying options, can reduce a person’s energy because of the high amount of sugar that is often added.

“Learning that these three foods can negatively impact energy is probably surprising to many people,” say Dr. Marchione. “But that doesn’t mean these foods should be avoided. Eating nuts in moderation can have several health benefits, while avoiding excess sugar and flavoured syrups in one’s oatmeal and yogurt can really fight off feelings of fatigue.”

The final two energy-zapping foods are red wine and coffee. Consuming red wine in excess can interrupt sleep and cause hangover-like symptoms the morning after, meanwhile consuming coffee at the wrong times throughout the day may actually drain one’s energy, as opposed to boost it.

“Most people drink coffee to give them a boost of energy, but that may not necessarily be the case,” says Dr. Marchione. “The key is to drink coffee when the body’s cortisol levels begin wearing off. That is usually between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and noon. Drinking coffee anytime after 3:00 p.m. may actually affect sleep patterns, which results in increased levels of fatigue in the long run.”
