Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiff Claims Anticoagulant Drug Caused Texas Woman’s Dangerous Internal Bleed
March 14, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on another lawsuit which has been filed against Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals in the Eastern District of New York. The lawsuit plaintiff is a Texas resident who claims that new-generation, blood-thinning drug Xarelto caused her to suffer from dangerous health complications, and that the defendants (who manufacture the drug) failed to adequately warn patients about the substantial risks linked with their anticoagulant. Her complaint was initially filed under number 1:14-cv-04524 in a federal court before being transferred during the formation of MDL 2592.
Further details of her lawsuit found within court documents indicate that the plaintiff was prescribed Xarelto by her doctor as a method of treatment for her atrial fibrillation condition, which can put sufferers at an increased risk for the occurrence of strokes. It is common for blood thinning drugs to be prescribed preventatively in these circumstances. In this particular case, however, the plaintiff claims she took Xarelto for only 5 month’s time before suddenly suffering from a life-threatening internal bleeding episode. Her complaint states that this dangerous and substantial bleed left her with long-term health problems requiring lengthy and costly specialized care.
Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011, though this approval has now become a topic of increasing controversy. The drug is surrounded by more than 3,000 lawsuits from across the nation and has also become the recipient of two ‘black box’ warnings from the FDA. These warnings are the most strict warning a product can receive before being pulled completely from the market.
Currently, federally-filed Xarelto uncontrollable bleeding lawsuits number over 2,800 cases and make up MDL No. 2592 in Eastern Louisiana. They are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon. In addition to these lawsuits, however, another consolidation of more than 600 Xarelto lawsuits has taken place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the Court of Common Pleas has created a mass tort. As these many plaintiffs await further trial preparations, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help ensure that anyone who believes they were negatively affected by Xarelto will be provided the important opportunity of fully investigating their legal rights. These patients may be entitled to legal action and substantial compensation. To help those deserving pursue justice, Attorney Osborne is currently offering complimentary legal consultations for affected parties.
