Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Claim Blood Thinner Caused Lasting and Dangerous Side Effects
March 14, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit which was filed against pharmaceutical manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a subdivision of the Johnson & Johnson corporation) and Bayer Healthcare in reference to the new-generation blood thinning drug they manufacture: Xarelto. The plaintiffs filing the lawsuit, which has been transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana under case number 2:15-cv-06514, are a Nebraska couple who both claim that the defendants failed to properly warn consumers about the dangerous side effects allegedly linked to their anticoagulant. They also allege that because he used Xarelto as instructed, the husband suffered from a sudden and dangerous bleeding episode, and now suffers from permanent health problems and a shortened life expectancy due to that bleed.
Court documents for the lawsuit reveal further details, indicating that the man had taken Xarelto for a duration of 7 months when he suddenly began to bleed internally. Doctors reportedly noted that he suffered from a severe gastrointestinal bleed which was incredibly difficult to stop because the blood thinner was in his system. The plaintiffs claim that this troublesome bleeding event was caused by Xarelto and may have otherwise been able to be avoided.
These plaintiffs are joined by others from all over the United States who similarly allege that Xarelto use has caused them health problems. In recent times, in fact, Xarelto has become the subject of thousands of lawsuits from concerned plaintiffs, all who agree that the drug puts patients at increased risk for dangerous bleeding episodes which can leave lasting effects. Some of the plaintiffs involved have even filed their lawsuits on behalf of loved ones who have passed away due to severe hemorrhages or bleeds.
Xarelto lawsuits which were federally-filed across America have been consolidated by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to form MDL No. 2592, which now includes more than 2,800 cases. In addition to these continuously growing cases, more than 600 other Xarelto lawsuits were formed into a mass tort group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the Court of Common Pleas.
The plaintiffs involved in this particular lawsuit are now asking for compensatory and punitive damages, as well as financial coverage for legal fees. They have indicated that they need help to pay mounting medical bills as well as ones that loom in their future. As they await their trial date, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to assist anyone who feels that they have been negatively affected by Xarelto use.
