Palm Springs Bicycle Accident

March 21, 2016 – – The victim of the accident retained The Law Offices of Kevin Cortright to represent him for his claim against the driver and owner of the vehicle. Additionally, Mr. Cortright’s office is attempting to locate the first vehicle that pulled out of the parallel parking spot initiating the accident. Mr. Cortright stated that this is already the second severe bicycle accident he has been retained for this year in the Palm Springs area.

The victim, a bicyclist, was struck by a car in Palm Springs on February 13, 2016 around 19:48 hours. The Palm Springs bicycle accident occurred in Downtown Palm Springs on South Palm Canyon Drive directly in front of the Cold Nose Warm Heart store. The accident victim was riding his bike southbound on South Palm Canyon Drive which is a one-way street. It was a busy night in the downtown area and cars as usual were parked parallel to the street. Apparently one of the cars parallel parked on the left hand side of the street pulled out without looking and without seeing the bicyclist. The bicyclist moved to the left of his lane to avoid the car pulling out and was struck by another vehicle. The second vehicle was changing lanes from the number 2 lane to the number 3 lane. Unfortunately, the second vehicle’s driver did not see the bicyclist and struck him. The accident victim was knocked to the ground and rendered unconscious. Additionally, the accident victim suffered numerous injuries and was rushed to the emergency room for medical care.

Fortunately, the bicyclist had proper safety gear in use including a bicycle helmet and lights. While the lights did not seem to help avoid the accident, clearly the helmet did help prevent further injuries. The helmet suffered severe damage and likely prevented a more severe brain injury or even death. The bicyclist was a very experienced bicyclist and was riding with other friends who witnessed the accident.
