Lollapalooza 2016 Sells Out in 45 Minutes: Tickets Available on Secondary Market

Tickets for Chicago’s mega music fest, Lollapalooza, went on sale to the public this morning and sold out in 46 minutes, Lollapalooza reps confirmed on Twitter. The 4-day event, scheduled to take place at Chicago’s Grant Field, is one of the city’s most popular music events. The 4-day passes, priced at $336, are the most popular option for the festival. One-day passes and VIP tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning, concert promoters said.

Concert promoters are expected to announce the full concert lineup and schedule at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. However, an unnamed source told Billboard magazine that this year’s headliners will include Radiohead, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and LCD Sound System. The leak is in keeping with the expectation that the annual event will roll out a huge, big-name lineup to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. It will be the second time headlining the iconic Chicago event for Radiohead. Red Hot Chili Peppers have headlined Lollapalooza three times previously. Both bands are expected to release new albums before the July 28-31 festival. LCD Sound System played Lollapalooza 2007, but didn’t headline. This year, their appearance at the festival is part of a reunion tour that includes appearances at several other major summer music festivals. LCD Sound System is also working on new music and planning a new studio release album soon. Lollapalloza 2016 marks the first time the annual event will cover four days. This was necessary because of the sheer number of artists interested in playing this year.

While one-day passes have not gone on sale to the general public yet, single day Lollapalooza tickets are already available on secondary markets, such as ConcertBank.com, alongside a limited supply of 4-day Lollapalooza tickets. General admission 4-day passes range in price from $418 to $928, with the average price settling in at about $450. VIP 4-day passes, which grant admission to the Lolla Lounge, average $2,300, according to ConcertBank. ConcertBank’s inventory also lists one-day Lollapalooza tickets for all four days, starting at $149 and ranging up to $200. There are also a scattered handful of one-day VIP tickets for Lollapalooza from $930 to $1250. Those prices and inventory numbers are subject to change, a ConcertBank rep warned, and the prices for single-day Lollapalooza passes will very likely skyrocket once the schedule is released Wednesday morning.
