“What’s Happening Now” Gives Users Updates about What’s Going on in Their Favorite Cities

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 24, 2016 / What’s Happening Now is a brand new Android app that gives users real time updates about what’s going on in their favorite cities around the world.

The app, which anyone can download for Android, works on a community basis. Users create individual profiles and upload pictures and videos which are correlated with the city they are posting from. Then, people from around the globe follow the cities of their choosing and get real time updates from the community.

For example, if a famous band is playing in Denver, Colorado one night, a user can tune in from China and see exactly what’s happening in real time with the concert.

Or, if a demonstration is taking place in Rio Di Janero, Brazil, people from around the world can get immediate updates- many times faster than anything the news or regular social media can deliver.

What’s Happening Now was created by American developer Michael Farr-El who was “inspired to develop this app because his father moved to Kokomo Indiana with Chrysler and every time he would call, he would ask about the grandchildren and all the relatives. He was really interested in having pictures and wanted to know what was going on right then,” says the website.

Developed by Zapporoo, the application was designed to be a geographical based form of social media- something yet unseen in the realm of online communities. Rather than uniting under common interests, users unite via location- and add value by posting content related to the city of which they reside.

The app works similar to many forms of popular social media, and was intentionally designed that way to be as intuitive and simple to use as possible.

Users create profiles with their picture and a few basic facts about themselves. Once active, they can follow the cities/places of their choosing to get updates through news feeds and a “trending now” aggregate.

Individual user activity is displayed such as which videos and photos they posted,as well as their comments, likes and shares of 3rd party content.
