Judge Eldon E. Fallon Holds Xarelto Lawsuit Status Conference

March 24, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the recent status conference given by Judge Fallon in the national lawsuits against Xarelto manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG. Lawsuits have been filed claiming the blood thinner causes adverse side effects that are not fully disclosed by the companies. Thousands of lawsuits are now pending in Eastern Louisiana in MDL No. 2592. Lawsuits have also been filed in states including California, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York. Those filed in Pennsylvania state court are being handled as part of a mass tort program.

At the February MDL Status Conference, an update on the progress of those cases was given to Judge Fallon, who is presiding over the cases. The update involved case-specific information including medical histories and adverse event reports to the FDA. Hearings on the defendants’ requests to dismiss cases for failing to provide discovery information within the established timeframe for the Xarelto litigation are scheduled for March.

The Food & Drug Administration approved Xarelto (rivaroxaban) in 2011 specifically for issues such as preventing blood clots and deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing knee and hip replacements, atrial fibrillation, and for general use in reducing the recurrence of blood clots, and stent thrombosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Xarelto has no known reversal agents that are FDA approved at this time.

Alleged side effects of the drug include hemorrhagic pericardial effusion, epidural hematoma, stroke, heart attack rectal bleeding, pulmonary embolism, brain hemorrhages and internal bleeding.

While many plaintiffs await further action from the courts, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working with patients who may have taken Xarelto and experienced similar health issues. Patients who have experienced adverse side effects that they attribute to the use of Xarelto have the opportunity to explore their legal rights and may be entitled to financial compensation. Osborne is offering free consultations to those believed to be affected by the drug.
