New Program Offers Elementary School Teachers a Simple Way to Teach Music

March 29, 2016 – – A team of California elementary school teachers has recently created a step-by-step music learning product called “I Can Play/Teach Recorder” to help address budget cuts for music programs throughout the country.

Says John Waybrant, an elementary school principal in Indio California and organizer of the project, “Music programs are constantly in danger of being cut from shrinking school budgets even though studies have shown that learning music helps to improve overall academic performance.

“We wanted to find a way to offer a simple and low-cost solution to this problem. Music should be taught as part of all elementary school curriculums. Since we couldn’t find such a solution, we put together a team of music and non-music teachers to create a program to fill this need. In test schools around California, the results have been fantastic and the response from schools and teachers to our course has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The new program comes complete with DVDs, booklets and recorders, and was developed for music as well as non-music teachers at the elementary level to add solid, basic music instruction to their classroom activities, even when there is little or no budget for an official music program.
