Pulmonary Embolism: A Look At A Common Side Effect Alleged By Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs

March 30, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a commonly cited adverse side effect that plaintiffs in Xarelto lawsuits allege is a direct result of the blood-thinning drug. According to many patients who have used Xarelto and filed lawsuits against its manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG, pulmonary embolism, or a blood clot in the lung, is a common life-threatening side effect along with several others.

Xarelto was first approved by the FDA in 2011 to treat and prevent several health problems having to do with acute coronary syndrome and other issues including preventing the recurrence of blood clots and deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing knee and hip replacements. Since its approval, the companies have faced thousands of federally-filed lawsuits alleging that patients were not adequately warned about the possible side effects including internal bleeding, brain hemorrhages, rectal bleeding, epidural hematoma, pulmonary embolism, heart attack and stroke. According to a report released in 2013, the most common of those side effects is pulmonary embolism, affecting 386 of the 2,100 of adverse reports concerning Xarelto.

Pulmonary embolism is the sudden blockage of a major vessel in the lung. The blockage is usually caused by a blood clot which, if big enough, can cause major damage to the lung or stop blood flow, becoming deadly. Having blood clots in deep veins can lead to pulmonary embolism, a condition from which 300,000 people suffer each year along with deep vein thrombosis. Symptoms of pulmonary embolism include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain that is worse when you cough or take a deep breath and a cough that brings up pink foamy mucus.

As more cases are expected to be brought to court concerning the alleged side effects, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help ensure that anyone who has taken Xarelto and has also experienced negative side effects that they attribute to the drug will be given the opportunity to thoroughly investigate their legal rights. These people could be entitled to significant compensation. Osborne is offering complimentary legal consultations to affected parties at this time.
