Nebraska Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Claim Anticoagulant Caused Severe And Permanent Damage

April 01, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit which was filed against a manufacturer of blood-thinning drug Xarelto: Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson corporation). The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana under case number 2:15-cv-06514. The filing plaintiffs are a couple from Nebraska who claim that Janssen marketed an unsafe blood thinner which ultimately caused the husband to suffer from serious and lasting side effects including bleeding episodes and a shortened life expectancy.

Details from the lawsuit state that the husband was given a prescription for Xarelto and took the drug from May of 2013 through December of 2013 when he suddenly developed a gastrointestinal bleeding episode. The couple claims this episode was caused by Xarelto, and they are now seeking both compensatory and punitive damages in addition to money for legal fees.

Unfortunately, this couple is not alone in their complaints. Xarelto has been the topic of more than 3,400 lawsuits within the last 5 years, all which similarly claim that the blood thinner puts users at increased risk for a variety of side effects, most commonly dangerous and sudden bleeding episodes. Lawsuits federally-filed against Xarelto manufacturers have been transferred and consolidated by the U.S. JPML to form MDL No. 2592, and currently include more than 2,800 cases. In addition, more than 600 other Xarelto lawsuits have been consolidated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the Court of Common Pleas to form a mass tort program.

Since its 2011 approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Xarelto has also been the recipient of two “black box” warnings from the agency. These warnings are the most strict warning possible for a product to be given before being completely pulled from the market.
