As Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit Numbers Increase Treatment Options Are Available
April 05, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on treatment options for women suffering from pelvic mesh complications, as lawsuits continue to mount against product manufacturers. Lawsuits have been brought against the companies after plaintiffs claim to suffer severe side effects as a result of the device.
Treatment options for those suffering from complications of mesh are available, however. According to the University of Colorado’s Urogynecology Board site, options for treatment in mesh complications include treatment with estrogen cream, close observation, office excision (removal of the mesh), excision in the operating room, and removal of the maximum amount of mesh or graft.
The devices are typically used for treatment of stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). When used for POP, the mesh is inserted through an incision made in the vaginal wall. It then reinforces the vaginal wall and supports bulging organs. When used for stress urinary incontinence, it is used as a sling to support the urethra.
The device, typically made out of non-absorbable synthetic polypropylene, has allegedly caused perforation of organs and in some cases has eroded through the vagina causing complications, according to thousands of plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits against the manufacturers.
Manufacturers who have produced transvaginal mesh include C.R. Bard, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, Coloplast Corp and Cook Medical.
As more mesh cases are expected to be brought to court, attorneys at Banville Law are working to make sure that those who believe they have suffered negative side effects as a result of a transvaginal mesh implant are given the important opportunity to explore their legal rights fully. Qualifying individuals may be entitled to legal action and financial compensation. Banville Law is currently offering free case evaluations for those parties.
