Naked And Afraid is a reality series that chronicles the lives of two survivalists who meet for the first time on TV, and are given the task of trying to survive for twenty one days. They begin this challenge naked, and from there must seek out and produce shelter, food and clothing within the environment they find themselves in.

Each couples’ adventurous quest is played out in a single episode. Before they meet, they strip down and are given a cross-body satchel containing a diary and a camera to document their journey, and to use when the TV camera is not there at night. They are also given a map to help them to travel through the wilderness. Each survivalist can bring one luxury item, but other than that, they are left to fend for themselves.

The duo can give up at any point, but if they don’t, then they must reach the destination point on the twenty first day to be picked up by a helicopter or boat. The show then calculates a Primitive Survival Rating based on survival fitness in skill, experience and mental strength.

Sonja Landis documents her survival training in her book, The Anti-Officer, which covers her journey from college to military spy.
