As Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit Filings Mount, Women Unite To Seek Solutions
April 06, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on three women who are working to unite women who suffer from side effects of transvaginal mesh. According to an article by Business Wire, three women from Mississippi, Florida, and West Virginia have joined together to direct women to various places where they can learn about mesh and it’s side effects as well as seek help for these issues.
The issues these women face are not new to many women who have filed suits against mesh manufacturers. Companies including C.R. Bard, Boston Scientific, Johnson & Johnson, Cook Medical and Coloplast Corp have recently come under fire after thousands of women filed lawsuits alleging that the mesh devices used to treat incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse cause serious side effects that those companies did not adequately portray to healthcare workers. These alleged side effects have included organ perforation, severe pelvic or vaginal pain, vaginal scarring, recurrent prolapse or incontinence, infection, bleeding, inability to engage in sexual intercourse and, in some cases, death.
The devices were first approved for use in stress urinary incontinence procedures in 1996 and were later approved in 2002 for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. They were originally used in the 1950s for treatment of abdominal hernias. Since reported adverse events accumulated to near 2,000 in number in 2008, the FDA has issued multiple warnings about the devices, reclassifying them as “high risk.”
These cases are not expected to dwindle in number any time soon. While more cases are being evaluated, lawyers at Banville Law are working to ensure that those individuals who have been treated with transvaginal mesh are able to explore their legal rights fully. Certain individuals may be entitled to legal action and substantial financial compensation. The firm is currently offering free case evaluations for qualifying parties.
