Phillips Law Group Files Federal Lawsuit Against Bisbee With Regards To Fatal Shooting Of Carlos Ramirez

April 19, 2016 – – Phillips Law Group, based in Phoenix, Arizona, has filed a federal lawsuit in regards to the death of Carlos Ramirez. The law firm is representing Ramirez’s family in the suit, which is against the City of Bisbee and police officer Sergeant Robert Coronado.

The suit comes after Ramirez was shot and killed by Coronado nearly a year ago as indicated in Report No. 15-05724 at the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. Phillips Law Group filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court, and is seeking unnamed compensatory, general, special, exemplary, and punitive damages, in addition to funeral and attorney expenses from the City of Bisbee and Coronado.

Jeffrey Phillips of the law firm states that the suit has been filed against the defendants in, “The murder of Carlos Ramirez by the defendant, who acted in his official capacity as a police officer.” The shooting took place on April 22, 2015 in Bisbee. The attorney states that interested parties can keep up with the latest on the lawsuit and other cases that the firm handles by following Phillips Law Group on Facebook.

Ramirez was shot by the officer and killed in a tent encampment where he lived behind Safeway. The incident occurred after an interaction with the officer, when he was called to investigate a complaint filed by a woman who went to the police station stating that Ramirez had banged on the window of her vehicle earlier that morning.

Two police officers, one of them being Coronado, arrived at the store location, and reported that Ramirez was armed with a knife. It was also reported that the victim became disorderly when the two officers first approached him, which led to an altercation and ultimately, to the fatal shooting. Reports after the incident stated that Ramirez was homeless at the time, and that he had been dealing with various mental health issues. The victim was very well known around the area.

Phillips states that the firm believes justice was not served and states that, “Our goal is to assist the Ramirez family in gaining closure in the wake of this horrible tragedy.”

More information is expected to be released about the investigation and the lawsuit. Those interested can also learn more by following Phillips Law Group on Google.
