Invokana Lawsuit Note FDA Warning Label Changes and Adverse Event Reports From Taking Drug

April 25, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com comments on a public safety communication issued by the U.S FDA (Food and Drug Administration) on 4th December 2015. The announcement by the agency indicated new regulations for the warning label on Invokana – a new generation type-2 diabetes drug that is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, a division of Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The U.S FDA announcement comes in the wake of a myriad of health problems that are developing among Invokana users as well as other similar SGLT2 class inhibitor drugs.

The agency’s warning statement addresses diabetic ketoacidosis specifically. This is a condition where the body develops extra toxic acid in its bloodstream. The FDA has requested patients currently taking SGLT2 inhibitor drugs to carefully lookout for symptoms related to ketoacidosis. Some of the symptoms to be on the lookout for include trouble in breathing, abdominal pain, excess fatigue, frequent urination, vomiting and nausea.

Since the FDA is currently observing closely the potential connection between Invokana and diabetic ketoacidosis, the public has also been sensitized on the same. According to the FDA’s findings, patients needed treatment or hospitalization immediately when they noticed symptoms. Those that go undiagnosed can die or become comatose. The FDA strongly recommends against delayed medical attention once one notices symptoms related to Invokana.
