Invokana Lawsuit: Plaintiffs Note with Great Concern the Warning Label Changes and Adverse Side Effect Reports for Drug

April 25, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com comments on a public safety communication issued by the U.S FDA on 4th December 2015. The announcement by the agency brought with it new requirements for Invokana’s warning label. Invokana is a new generation type-2 diabetes drug. Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson & Johnson and the manufacturer of Invokana has to make the changes to the product’s warning label. The agency’s announcement came in the wake of numerous adverse reports that it received associated to health problems that have developed among patients using the drug and other SGLT2 class inhibitor drugs.

The U.S Food and Drug Administration announcement addresses diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a condition where the body develops extra toxic acid in the bloodstream. The condition can turn out to be fatal, and is known to develop in less than 24 hours. Consequently, the FDA is requesting users of the drug and other SGLT2 class inhibitor drugs to be on the lookout for any ketoacidosis symptoms. Some of the symptoms to watch out for include difficulty in breathing, abdominal pain, excess fatigue, frequent urination, nausea, and vomiting. If the symptoms are noticed patients are urged to seek medical attention immediately.

The FDA is closely monitoring the prospective connection between Invokana and diabetic ketoacidosis.

“We are currently investigating several cases where individuals who took an SGLT2, such as Invokana, Farxiga or Jardiance, subsequently were diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney complications, heart attack and stroke. If we prove that these complications were caused by the drug, we look forward to aggressively pursuing the rights of our clients and recovering just compensation for their pain and suffering, and for what their families may have had to endure,” stated attorney Laurence Banville, a defective drug and product lawyer and sponsor of TheProductLawyers.com.
