LUSO Federal Credit Union Promotes Shift from Paper to eStatements

LUSO Federal Credit Union has enacted a new Earth Day initiative to move members away from paper bank statements to save money and help the planet.

LUSO Federal Credit Union (www.LusoFederal.com), a member-owned not-for-profit financial cooperative, has launched a new green initiative to mark Earth Day. With the idea that greener banking can make a greener world, LUSO has begun efforts to convert more Members away from paper bank statements and towards eStatements instead.
 
“Everyone should play a part in helping make things greener and this is ours,” explains Jennifer Calheno, CEO and president of LUSO Federal Credit Union. “Credit unions aren’t known for being greenhouse gas emitters, but banking uses a lot of paper. By shifting more towards an electronic format, it helps reduce paper usage and waste.”
 
The push to move more LUSO Members to eStatements currently takes multiple forms. In-branch signage and electronic messaging are being used to help raise awareness of the option and explaining how Members can make the switch. Paper messages are also being used.
 
“We are aware of the inherent irony with that part,” defends Calheno. “However, LUSO is taking a broader view. The paper messages go out once and every person who signs up will be getting many years’ worth of statements that no longer need to be printed. The balance more than evens out and is definitely on the side of saving paper.”
 
The eStatement feature will also be a Member convenience and will allow Members to better utilize LUSO’s other electronic options and time-saving offerings. This includes online applications, online bill payment options, mobile deposit, included in their LUSO Anywhere feature.
