Missouri IVC Filter Lawsuit Plaintiff Alleges Defectively Manufactured Device Caused Husband’s Death

April 26, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit which was filed against defendant C.R. Bard in reference to the IVC filter device they manufacture. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. It was filed by a widow on behalf of her husband, who she says passed away when his IVC filter device tilted inside of his body, and neglected to sufficiently protect him from blood clots traveling toward the heart and lungs.

IVC filter devices are used among patients who are unable to take traditional blood thinners. They are surgically inserted into the inferior vena cava vein, and are intended to capture and hold any blood clots which may be traveling from the lower body toward the heart and lungs, where they could cause a pulmonary embolism. The cage-like filters are designed to hold the blood clots until they dissipate, thus keeping the patient safe.

Further lawsuit details note that the now deceased husband had been implanted with a G2 IVC filter to protect him from traveling blood clots in November of 2006. After the surgery, the wife states that his filter moved and became tilted within his inferior vena cava vein, causing it to perforate the vein and neglect to block traveling blood clots heading to his heart and lungs. The widow notes that her husband died from the effects of a blood clot in September 2012.

The plaintiff now accuses IVC filter manufacturer C.R. Bard of manufacturing and marketing a device that is dangerous and defective. The defendant is reportedly facing an estimated 50 other lawsuits at this time, which also reference their G2 and Recovery filters, and have been centralized in an Arizona federal litigation.
