Risperdal Lawsuit Plaintiffs Observe As Millions Paid Out For Risperdal Jury Verdicts

April 27, 2016 – – LegalHerald.com comments on details surrounding current Risperdal-related trials filed against defendant Johnson & Johnson. It has been announced that Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay millions in compensation to Risperdal plaintiffs for trials where juries have reached verdicts. Johnson & Johnson is the parent company of Janssen Pharmaceuticals who manufactures antipsychotic drug Risperdal and who has been facing ongoing legal trouble surrounding the drug over the past few years.

Both Risperdal and Johnson & Johnson were the defendants in cases which resulted in two multimillion-dollar verdicts in February of 2015, one of which was awarded to the family of a young man who alleged he had developed significant gynecomastia while using the drug and another to the state of South Carolina for what was determined to be marketing fraud.

A Philadelphia jury reportedly awarded $2.5 million to the young man who had developed gynecomastia after deciding that the defendant was, in fact, liable for both the boy’s physical and emotional suffering. It was determined that the corporation had failed to adequately warn medical professionals and patients regarding the drug’s possible link to this condition, which causes males to develop significant breast tissue, much like that of females. The young man who was the plaintiff in this case is now age 21, and had begun to take Risperdal at the age of 8 to treat possible autism. Since this time, he grew to develop size 46DD breasts.

Risperdal is a highly potent drug which gained FDA-approval in the early 1990’s. It was approved to treat schizophrenia in adults but was not approved for use in children until much later in 2006. Johnson & Johnson is currently facing allegations that it marketed or pushed “off-label” prescriptions for children well before the drug was FDA-approved for this use.
