Longboat Key Man Suffers Burns Following E-Cigarette Explosion As Lawsuit Filings Grow

May 23, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an incident involving second and third-degree burns that resulted from an e-cigarette explosion in Longboat Key. A news report by Fox 13 states that a Manatee County man had to have skin grafts on his leg after his e-cigarette exploded inside his pants pocket. The man said he heard a hissing sound just before the device blew up and that the explosion set his shorts on fire.

This incident bears resemblance to several other reported occurrences involving e-cigarette explosions. Recent reports indicate that these explosions have happened in several states including New York, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, Colorado, and Utah. One case in New York involved a woman whose device exploded in her jeans pocket while she was parking her car. The explosion tore her jeans and ripped off part of the skin on her leg. The woman is being represented by Attorney Marc Freund in a lawsuit against the battery manufacturer and the store that sold it.

“You go into a store, you’re not dealing with the manufacturer, you’re dealing with the retailer,” said Freund in an interview with NBC. “They have a responsibility for public’s safety.”

The FDA has recently moved to include the devices in their regulation of other tobacco products such as cigarettes, pipes and cigars. They have also placed a ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman are currently looking to assist those who have been affected by explosive e-cigarettes. Certain individuals may be entitled to financial compensation. Attorney Freund is currently offering free consultations to anyone who has been injured by the devices.
