E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase As Alleged E-Cigarette Explosion In Grocery Store Causes Severe Burns
May 29, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a story released by CBS Los Angeles detailing an alleged e-cigarette explosion incident suffered by an Orange County, California teenager. The 19-year-old boy was reportedly working at a grocery store called Albertsons in Ladera Ranch while a cigarette battery he was carrying in his pocket suddenly exploded. The article states that Captain Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority believed that the explosion occurred when the battery came into contact with his keys. He noted that the device appeared to have exploded and propelled around 15 feet down the aisle of the supermarket.
Further details state that the young man was transported to Mission Hospital and received treatment for first and second-degree burns on his thigh before being released.
Unfortunately, as e-cigarette popularity increases, so do e-cigarette explosion reports like these. According to FEMA, 25 incidents involving e-cigarette explosions have been reported by mainstream media between 2009 and 2014, yet these numbers could be higher with the number of unreported incidents. The news release makes note of a 17-year-old boy from Anaheim, California who also reported being injured while smoking an e-cigarette which allegedly malfunctioned. Just a month before, as well, a man from Santa Ana, California reported suffering injuries when his e-cigarette device exploded in his hands.
