Safety Violations Cited In Worker’s Injury Should Be Impetus For Change, Says Construction Accident Lawyer

May 29, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman said recently that the discovery of safety violations at a construction site where a worker was critically injured in early May should be an eye opener to those with the power to make changes.

The 40-year-old man had been injured in late April when he was struck in the head by a building excavator, according to silive.com. The man had been working on a construction project at Staten Island University Hospital to build a new above ground power plant when the accident occurred. Inspectors determined that the excavator had been improperly operated and that the man had been hit by the excavator in an area where there was no required safety zone, according to the article.

Construction accidents have become an increasing problem in New York. Recently, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Department of Buildings Commissioner Rick Chandler announced they will quadruple the penalties for serious construction-safety lapses, conduct a wave of more than 1,500 enforcement sweeps, and require new supervision at construction sites citywide to protect workers and the public amid the record building boom.

For some victims of construction accidents, however, these initiatives come too late. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman has been representing victims of construction accidents for a combined 80 years and, in that time, has helped win over $500 million in settlements. The firm believes that victims of construction accidents are entitled to the representation and compensation they deserve. Attorney Moverman has even represented one victim who was awarded $2.6 million after injuring his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm is currently offering free consultations to parties who have been injured in a construction accident. Qualifying individuals may be entitled substantial financial compensation.
