As U.S. E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Continue, Canadian Teen Is Injured In E-Cigarette Explosion
May 30, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an incident in Canada in which a teen was badly injured after using an e-cigarette. Nextshark reported in a February article that a Canadian teen suffered severe burns to his face and shattered teeth after his e-cigarette unexpectedly exploded. Since the accident, the 16-year-old’s father has called for a ban on e-cigarette sales to minors.
A similar ban has just been made in the U.S. against sales to minors after the FDA made the call to begin regulating the sale, labeling, promotion and advertising of the devices. The regulations come after an ongoing debate about e-cigarettes’ safety and health benefits, as well as several reported incidents of the devices exploding. One such incident was reported recently in Orange County, California when an e-cigarette exploded in a teen’s pocket while at the supermarket. The device exploded after coming in contact with the teen’s keys and the blast left him with first and second-degree burns on his thigh. The devices have become increasingly popular since their debut and according to FEMA, about 2.5 million Americans use the devices. Other incidents involving exploding e-cigarettes have been reported in states including Oklahoma, Texas, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Louisiana, Colorado, Florida, and Utah.
Several victims of the explosions have chosen to take legal action, some calling for a ban on the cigarettes. In an effort to assist those affected by e-cigarette explosions, Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman are currently working to ensure that those individuals who have been injured by the devices are able to explore their legal rights fully. Attorney Marc Freund is currently offering free consultations to anyone who has been injured by the devices. Certain individuals may be entitled to substantial financial compensation.
