Construction Accident Lawyer Urges Victims To Seek Justice
June 01, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s personal injury attorney Tom J. Moverman comments on the increasing number of construction accidents in New York.
According to the New York Department of Buildings, the number of construction accidents that resulted in injuries has nearly doubled from 2014 to 2015. In 2015 alone, 433 accidents resulted in injuries to 471 people – both construction workers and pedestrians. While some believe the rising numbers are due to an increase in construction projects, Mr. Moverman believes that if building developers, owners, general contractors, and subcontractors were held accountable for violating OSHA safety standards, fewer accidents would occur.
Mr. Moverman has noted that even though OSHA exists to protect people from accidents by creating rules and regulations regarding safety on a construction site, the department is much smaller than most people imagine. There are only around 2,200 inspectors available for the more than 130 million American workers. There is no way that any one worker can inspect the work sites they are responsible for on a regular basis and it is for this reason that many employers choose to ignore certain safety standards which cost them time and money.
In his time at Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, and Moverman, P.C., Mr. Moverman has represented hundreds of construction accident victims and has helped them get the compensation they both need and deserve. In one specific case, he helped a worker who was injured when defective scaffolding caused him to fall resulting in permanent injuries to his knee. At the end of a trial, a jury awarded the plaintiff $2.6 million for his past and future medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
