Construction Accident Lawyer Comments On Ceremony Honoring Fallen Workers

June 02, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Tom Moverman commented recently on the ceremony held on Workers’ Memorial Day to honor fallen construction workers. One of the workers who was honored was an Air Force veteran whose family has pursued a lawsuit against his former employers.

The plaintiffs, in this case, have alleged that the man’s death was completely preventable and that the developers failed to implement labor laws and building code regulations. The accident took place when the worker attempted to jump from a lift which had broken down between floors. He failed to jump to safety and fell 24 stories down the elevator shaft.

This man isn’t the only worker who had a hard hat as a symbol at the ceremony. From the beginning of 2016 to April of 2016, 17 construction workers have died on the job. The family and friends who attended are hoping to bring attention to the work that individuals and groups are doing throughout the state to advocate for safer construction sites. According to OSHA, if employers worked hard to implement safety measures which would eliminate the “Fatal Four” accidents, they would save the lives of 508 American workers every year. Of the four most common accidents which make up this category, falls account for nearly 40% of all fatalities on construction sites.

Lawsuits filed by the victims of construction accidents or a loved one alleging that an employer failed to enforce proper safety standards on the job site are far more common than they should be.
