Saltfish Surf Company Introduces Handmade Bags and Accessories for Surfers

The bags are made from hand-woven Oaxacan wool rugs that are organically-dyed using natural elements

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 4, 2016 / Saltfish Surf Company is pleased to announce their line of handmade bags and accessories for surfers. Based in Venice California, and manufactured in Mexico, the products pair functionality with unique textiles sourced from local villages, and are manufactured by artisans in small workshops rather than in big factories.

“I wanted to create accessories that I could relate to,” says Romain Goudinoux, founder of Saltfish. “I wanted to find a way to use fabrics collected around the globe to make a positive change in the world. I believe I could come up with a line of bags and accessories different than what is already available on the market.”

Saltfish Surf Company’s flagship product is their surfboard tote bag. The bag wraps under and around a surfboard allowing it to be carried like a tote bag, with leather straps that rest over the shoulder. Each bag carries a surfboard of any size comfortably, and has inner pockets and storage for other beach going accessories.

“The construction of the bag is designed for function and utility, evenly distributing the weight of the board for easy carriage,” says the website. “It’s the perfect bag for your daily beach goings or if you have a little bit of a hike to get to that ‘secret’ surf spot.”

The bags are assembled by hand in Mexico, and they are made from hand-woven Oaxacan wool rugs. Each bag is organically-dyed using natural elements such as berries, moss, and tree bark, and then finished using foot-powered looms. Goudinoux prides himself on using no plastic or harsh chemicals during any phase of the manufacturing process, and he hires local workers that he’s proud to be able to employ.

The company also makes a “military tote bag” which is made from repurposed military duffle bags. The tote features a big interior pocket made out of vintage blankets and serapes for storage of any array of personal belongings.
