As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase Fire From E-Cigarette Explosion Causes Damage
June 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the news of another e-cigarette explosion which caused damage to an Oklahoma residence when a fire quickly spread. A Tulsa, Oklahoma man reportedly experienced an e-cigarette explosion that resulted in a call to the fire department as his laptop, lamp, window shades and more all caught fire. The device reportedly exploded during charging, according to NewsOn6.com of Oklahoma. The victim stated that he was washing dishes, and noticed the explosion when he saw a sudden flash off to the side, in the corner of his vision.
The man’s e-cigarette was only a few months old, purchased as a substitute for cigarettes both for health and economic reasons. He hoped to use the e-cigs to help him quit smoking, and thought it was a financially smart choice since e-cigarette supplies are less expensive than cigarettes: “two or three dollars” for supplies versus six dollars for a pack of cigarettes, he reportedly said. While he was charging the electronic cigarette from his laptop USB port, the explosion occurred. He was fortunate to be nearby and able to take quick action in calling the fire department before further damage took place.
Sadly, other stories are accumulating, tales of tragic outcomes from e-cigarette explosions in pockets, charging at home, and even while in use. In North Carolina, a man claims to have had his e-cigarette explode in his face. He was temporarily blinded and experienced other serious facial injuries. He spoke of “hot oil” hitting his face, which was the e-cigarette “juice,” the flammable fluid which these devices consume. These devices and the potential danger they present are attracting increasing attention.
