Construction Accident Lawyer Urges Increased Safety Procedures, Following Boise Trench Collapse

June 06, 2016 – – Attorney Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com has praised the relentless effort of the Boise Fire Department for attempting to save the lives of 3 local construction workers who fell into a trench and were trapped.

As reported by KVTB.com, 2 construction workers were killed following the collapse of a trench in Boise, Idaho, the fate of the 3rd man is still unknown. The accident occurred on May 3rd and was triggered from a wall collapsing on the workers at about 6 PM. The Boise Fire Department Battalion Chief explained that they were able to rescue one of the victims who was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, but were unable to save the lives of the other fallen construction workers.

He went on to emphasize that in the situation of a collapse, rescuers must be extremely cautious in order to prevent a secondary collapse. For instance, rescuers cannot utilize heavy equipment during the rescue mission, and must act precisely and carefully so that they remain safe during the procedure. Local firefighters attempted to rescue the victims by hand removing the rubble and placing it into 5-gallon buckets.

OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) has stated that on average there are almost 90 workplace fatalities a week. Although OSHA is granted over 550 million dollars per year in funding, there are only 2,200 inspectors who are held responsible for the lives of 130 million workers. Therefore, each inspector is essentially accountable for the health and safety of 59,000 workers. These workplaces can be present almost anywhere in the United States, which has resulted in OSHA opening 10 regional offices and 90 local offices.

Although Thomas Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman does credit OSHA for increasing regulations and the number of inspections a year, he still longs for greater safety guidelines and precautions for construction workers. The attorneys at Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman are proud to have previous success in such cases, for instance, they recently represented a victim who suffered injuries to their back and neck where the victim received 1.78 million dollars in damages reparations. The firm has offered to assist individuals who have been harmed in construction accidents and is offering free consultations to affected parties.
