The New Traveling Exhibition Will Feature the 61,500 Carat Millennium Sapphire

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 9, 2016 / Millennium Sapphire LLC is pleased to announce the upcoming Millennium Sapphire USA Tour. The tour will feature the Millennium Sapphire, which a company spokesperson said is an icon in the world of arts and gems. The traveling exhibition will tour a variety of museums across the United States, including in major cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.

In addition to being a massive 61,500 carat sapphire, the gem is also known as a creativity space. As the spokesperson noted, the Millennium Sapphire, which was discovered a decade ago on an island off the southeastern coast of Africa, originally weighed 89,850 carats.

“The stone’s owners decided not to break up the remarkable sapphire into smaller cut gems, but rather to commission a master gem carver to pay tribute to humanity’s greatest examples of ingenuity and accomplishment through a series of 134 elaborate surface carvings,” the spokesperson said, adding that each carving on the Millennium Sapphire represents a great mind, inventor or creator throughout recorded history.

“In 1999 the sapphire was carved into an ‘Object de art,’ which was designed and overseen by Alessio Boschi, a renowned designer from Milan. Every carving also has an accompanying three dimensional figurine in lapis.”

As the spokesperson noted, the sapphire, which is the birthstone for September, has been prized throughout history and coveted by kings, queens and nobility of many cultures.

“In the Bible it’s said that in the throne of heaven, God’s footstool is a big sapphire. Ancient Persians believed that the earth rested on a giant sapphire and its blue reflection colored the sky,” the spokesperson said.

To help pay for the costs associated with the intensive upcoming Millennium Sapphire USA Tour, Millennium Sapphire LLC recently launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. They hope to raise $500,000 through crowdfunding.
