Albany Native Severely Injured In E-Cig Explosion, Plausible E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases Arise

June 21, 2016 – – Attorney Marc Freund of LipsigLawyers.com recently commented on a development in upstate New York that left a local man with a hole in his tongue and missing several teeth following an e-cigarette explosion. Freund conveyed his well wishes to the man and hopes he makes a speedy recovery after the traumatic incident.

As reported by a local CBS affiliate, WTVR.com reports that a local Albany man was smoking his e-cigarette when the device blew up in his face, knocking out several of his teeth, burning his hands, and puncturing a hole in his tongue. The incident occurred on May 19th, 2016 and the victim explained to a local CNN reporter that the e-cigarette “[It was] like an M80 bomb went off in my mouth.”

FEMA previously indicated that the likely cause of the most e-cigarette explosions is the instability of the lithium-ion battery that most e-cigarettes use. When the battery overheats, which often times is a result a pressure overload, fragments of the battery are propelled outward in the form of an explosion.

A previous FEMA report indicated that there were 25 reported e-cigarette explosions since the products were released to the public. However, a detailed timeline from TheProductLawyers.com provides a much-needed update to the reporting of e-cigarette explosions and concludes that there have been 199 reported explosions since 2009. Since 2014, there have been 162 e-cig explosions which represent over 80 percent of the reported e-cigarette explosions to date.

In New York, there have been 6 reported e-cigarette explosions since 2009. Another recent e-cig explosion in New York, occurred in Brooklyn, where a local teen was left blinded in his left eye, and suffering from severe burn wounds to his hands. Since the incident, the victim’s father has reached out to Attorney Marc Freund for his counsel and expertise. The lawsuit case is currently on-going.
