Potential E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases On The Rise, As Reported E-Cig Explosion Total Increases

July 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announcement that it will reassess e-cigarettes in light of numerous instances of exploding devices that have caused bodily injury and have created a potential fire hazard. The agency has stated that there are at least 25 documented cases since 2009 where e-cigs have exploded with almost 80 percent of these while the units were charging. However, there have been instances where the units have exploded while being used as well. The FDA hopes to create strict regulations regarding the devices which currently do not exist, in order to eliminate such tragic incidents from occurring.

While in a retail shop, one such tragic incident occurred when an e-cigarette exploded while a 14-year-old boy was holding it. As a result of the explosion, the boy suffered vision loss in one eye and burns on his hands and face. The father and son have decided to take legal action and are working with Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman.

Another incident occurred in central Idaho where a house fire was caused by an exploding e-cigarette. According to WPTV.com, a fire broke out in a home while the family was sleeping, that was precipitated by an overcharged battery in the e-cig, as per the Fire Marshal on the scene. When the device exploded it sent fragments to a nearby couch, thus causing a house fire.

The family was very lucky in that the fire alarm had gone off and alerted them to the dangerous blaze. They were able to use a fire extinguisher before the flames got out of hand. Family members have stated that if the fire alarm had not gone off they may not have been able to exit the house and could have died.

Many officials involved in these instances have stated that similar occurrences may be on the rise as e-cigarettes have become a very popular alternative to traditional tobacco-based products.
