Idaho Family Narrowly Escapes Burning Home Due To Exploding E-Cig, Prompts Future E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases

July 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the rise of incidences of exploding e-cigarettes and fire hazards caused by flaming projectile pieces of the device. Officials involved in many of the incidences caused by exploding e-cigarettes have stated that they will only increase since e-cigarettes have become a very popular alternative to traditional tobacco products.

Due to the increase in reports related to exploding e-cigarettes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided it will take another look at e-cigarettes and attempt to regulate the products. It is hoped that by doing so, it will help to alleviate the number of explosion cases. While some explosions have occurred while the units were in use, the bulk of them have occurred while the units were charging. Overall there have been at least 25 reported incidences of explosions, yet numbers are most likely higher due to underreporting.

One such incident, as reported by WPTV.com, in Idaho involved a house fire that started from flaming metal projectiles coming from an explosion of a charging e-cig. The Idaho family was sleeping at the time of the explosion but was alerted to what was happening by the smoke alarm. They, thankfully, were able to extinguish the fire and get out of the house.

A Fire Marshal investigating the scene stated that the fire was caused by an overcharged battery that blew up. When the explosion occurred it blew the end of the cap off sending fragments flying to a nearby couch, igniting it.

Another explosion occurred while a unit was in use where a 14-year-old boy in Brooklyn was holding an e-cig when it exploded in the retail shop. The explosion caused the loss of sight in one eye and burns on his hands and face. The victim and his father have decided to pursue legal action and have hired Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman.
