Several E-Cig Explosions Reported In New York, As Victim Files E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit

July 18, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on e-cigarette explosions and the number of lawsuits filed in New York focused on them. There have been 6 explosions in the state since 2009, and the most recent one occurred on May 19th. The e-cig a victim was using allegedly exploded in his face resulting in burns to his hands, the loss of several teeth and a hole being punctured into his tongue, as per a news story by WTVR.com. It was additionally reported that while the victim could speak, he spoke with a muffled voice. In a subsequent story by WNYT.com, a local NBC affiliate in the Albany area, it was reported that the victim had filed a lawsuit on June 22nd in which his lawyer stated that the explosion was most likely caused by a defective lithium-ion battery.

It should be noted that the first explosion in New York State occurred on April 5th when a Brooklyn youth was holding an e-cig that subsequently blew up in his face. The 14-year old suffered severe burns and lost vision in his left eye as a result of the explosion that occurred at the Kings Plaza Mall at a kiosk station. The victim has since filed a lawsuit and has retained the services of LipsigLawyers.com’s Marc Freund to represent him.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has stated that the agency believes the cause of the explosions is due to defective lithium-ion batteries. As per FEMA, the batteries have the potential to overload with energy. The overload of energy can cause an explosion which has ignited fires in several instances.
