Personal Injury Lawyer Comments On Walker County Construction Accident, As Alarming Construction Safety Statistics Rise

July 21, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a Walker County, Alabama crane accident that took the life of the crane operator. The incident occurred on the morning of June 13th at a Highway 269 bridge construction site as per ABC3340.com. Upon arrival, the Walker County Sheriff’s Department found that the crane had overturned and pinned the operator underneath it. A local coroner told ABC3340.com that the operator jumped from the crane when it started to shift, and it subsequently landed on top of him.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) released information showing that the 3rd and 4th leading causes of construction worker death in 2014 was due to being struck by an object or being caught between an object and equipment. The agency has also stated that these two causes of death are listed in construction’s “Fatal Four” which identifies the top 4 causes of construction worker deaths. Others identified in the list include electrocution deaths, and slips, trips and falls.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has also released data indicating that in the calendar year 2014 fatal work injuries were 5 percent higher than in 2013. The BLS also states that of all occupational injuries in 2014, 15 percent were due to contact with objects and equipment.
