Personal Injury Lawyer Conveys Support To NYC, As St. Patrick’s Cathedral Bells Ring 17 Times In Remembrance Of Fallen Workers

July 31, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a moving event that honored those who have died in construction accidents in NYC in 2014. As per The New York Times, the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral bells rang out 17 times on May 3rd to honor and remember the 16 fallen workers of construction accidents from the last 12 months. There was also a symbolic ring for prior victims. One reverend stated that those in the construction industry have sacred hands and that they are greatly appreciated for the work they do. The Times article also reported that the number of fatalities has sharply risen because of the booming real estate market in New York City.

Thomas Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman commented on the May event and stated that the number of times the bell rings may rise next year if regulations are not strengthened as they relate to the construction industry. He urges federal regulators to reevaluate and revise the current rules and regulations in order to ensure the safety of construction workers who face dangers on a daily basis. He extended his condolences to all 16 families of the victims for whom the bells of Saint Patrick’s honored.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has released data showing that in 2014, work-related fatalities numbered over 4,800. Of that number, almost 900 were construction workers, which equates to over 20 percent of the total number of fatalities in 2014. There was an average of 92 workers killed each week while working their jobs.

Of all the construction worker fatalities, almost 60 percent were construction worker deaths resulting from the “Fatal Four” as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The “Fatal Four” are the four leading causes of on the job deaths in the construction trades and include death by fall, electrocution, being struck by an object or being caught in between an object or equipment. The BLS states that 500 American construction worker lives could be saved if these deaths from the “Fatal Four” were eliminated.
