The Nebraska Sonata Project, a Collaborative Music Project, is Officially Launched

NSP was Designed to Help the Underrepresented Composers in the Midwest Gain Attention

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / August 22, 2016 / Alexis Nachtigal, a violinist who currently resides in Central City, Nebraska, is pleased to announce the launch of the Nebraska Sonata Project (NSP), a collaborative music project that was created to represent the underrepresented composers in the Midwest.

As Nachtigal noted, the NSP features herself, Saxophonist Nicholas May, and pianist Dimitra Kokkinopoulou. The three professional musicians all met at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. During their time there, they were strong advocates of giving back to the community by hosting free interactive concerts and performing in local schools.

“Our goal is to provide a platform for young composers to share their compositions with people in the areas they live and grew up in,” Nachtigal said, adding that through NSP, they encourage the unique voice of each composer to be heard, allowing for an array of compositional styles and aesthetics.

“Through performing and hosting concerts, the NSP hopes to see increased enthusiasm for Midwest composers’ music.”

Nachtigal said she and the other musicians who are part of NSP are looking forward to joining together for the Nebraska Sonata Project’s 2016-2017 inaugural concert season.

“All concerts will be performed in disadvantaged areas and small towns and will be free and open to the public,” she said.

After completing the 2016-2017 season of NSP, all of the musicians’ works will be professionally recorded. The recordings will be done by Tom Larson, an internationally recognized composer and recording engineer.

In order to help pay for composer fees, musician fees, travel expenses, and recording costs associated with launching NSP, Nachtigal recently launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. She and the other two musicians hope to raise $6,000 through crowdfunding.

“Any additional contributions will allow us to schedule additional concerts and attract more viewers to our concerts,” Nachtigal said, adding that a contribution of any size brings NSP one step closer to making this concert season and recording project a success.
