Freedom Boat Club Celebrates 17 Years of Low Cost Boating on Lake Lanier
Freedom Boat Club offers an affordable, hassle free alternative to boat ownership. Far more choices, far fewer headaches.

There is an old saying among boaters, past and present:
The happiest day of your life is when you buy a boat. The 2nd happiest day of your life is when you sell that boat.
Another adage related to boats and swimming pools:
You don’t want to own one. You want your next door neighbor to own one.
Lastly:
A boat is a floating black hole into which you pour money.

In 1999 Grant LaRoux had an idea. Why not create a boat club whereby members have access to a fleet of boats as an affordable alternative to owning a single boat?
17 years later Freedom Boat Club continues to do just that.
The concept is brilliant in its simplicity. For a one time entry fee and locked in low monthly dues members can select any of several types of vessels: cabin cruiser, bowrider / deck boat (think ski boat), center console fishing boat or pontoon. After each reservation the member pays only for gas used – and a tip to the dock hand for fueling and clean up.
Traditional boat ownership can be expensive, labor intensive and time consuming. Costs include maintenance and repair, insurance, marina fees and/or a trailer. During frequent periods of lengthy repair the owner is obviously without use of their asset.
Freedom removes those burdens by taking care of everything. Boats are maintained in impeccable condition and in the dock slip when the member arrives. Simply take they keys and go. Upon return hand the keys in – and go. Members are assured they can get on the lake year round, 7 days a week.
Boats are continually rotated thru the fleet. New boats are added and others retired after approximately 3 years. As membership grows the fleet does too, assuring availability even during peak demand periods.
Logic dictates that summer and holiday weekends mean peak demand, so members are advised to make reservations as far in advance as possible – up to 60 days. On weekdays boats are almost certainly available even on a walk-up basis, though a reservation is still recommended.
Not only does the Lake Lanier fleet continually grow, so does the club itself. With corporate headquarters in Sarasota, Florida, Freedom now boasts 110 clubs across the US and Canada. Membership at one gives boaters access to waters from the Florida Keys to New England, the Great Lakes, Southern California and Pacific Northwest. Plans are in the works to expand beyond North America.
