Plaintiffs In Talcum Powder Lawsuit Oppose Creation of MDL

September 26, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a recent opposition filed with the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation against the creation of an MDL for a talcum powder lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson.

Plaintiffs recently filed a motion on Aug. 5 opposing the creation of an MDL in order to handle the growing number of claims against Johnson & Johnson, according to HarrisMartin Publishing. The claims suggest that Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products are linked to ovarian cancer and that the company should be held responsible. Plaintiffs opposed the creation of an MDL, stating that their cases had been pending since 2014 and “already being well-managed without MDL treatment.”

Over the last 45 years numerous studies have found that women who use baby powder as a feminine hygiene product are more likely to develop this debilitating disease.

Thousands of women in the U.S. have made claims alleging that Johnson & Johnson hid valuable medical information that prevented consumers from knowing the dangers of using the powders. Those plaintiffs further claim that the use of Johnson & Johnson’s powders as a feminine hygiene product are directly linked to ovarian cancer. Johnson & Johnson has denied claims that their products cause cancer and has stated that no causal link exists.
