While Xarelto Lawsuit Filings Build, BMJ Claims Janssen Did Not Disclose Fault With Testing Device
October 13, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a recent article by The Pharmaceutical Journal indicating that the British Medical Journal has found that the drug company may have withheld data from the FDA about a faulty blood testing device used in a trial of the anticoagulation drug Xarelto.
According to the journal, Janssen allegedly failed to disclose problems with the device used to monitor warfarin levels in the phase III ROCKET AF study, which compared the use of rivaroxaban and warfarin to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Since the drug was approved in 2011, patients have reported suffering serious life-threatening conditions as a result of using the drug. Alleged side effects of the drug include hemorrhagic pericardial effusion, epidural hematoma, stroke, heart attack, rectal bleeding, pulmonary embolism, brain hemorrhages, and internal bleeding. Many patients have gone on to file lawsuits claiming that companies such as Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson should be held accountable for marketing what they claim companies knew was a dangerous drug. Xarelto has no known reversal agents that are FDA approved at this time.
Xarelto is a prescription medicine used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation, not caused by a heart valve problem. It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and to help reduce the risk of the conditions occurring again. Additionally, it can be used to reduce the risk of forming a blood clot in the legs and lungs of people who have just had knee or hip replacement surgery, according to the Xarelto website.
“Our lawsuits allege that the manufacturers failed to warn our clients about the severe side effects from which our clients suffered while taking the drug,” said attorney Laurence Banville, a contributor to the Xarelto litigation updates on TheProductLawyers.com. “We are speaking with families who have had brain bleeds, gastrointestinal bleeds, vaginal bleeding, and bleeding from trauma where hospitalization and extreme measures were taken by medical staff to help save the patient’s life,” Banville continued. “We look forward to fighting for the rights of our clients and pursuing just compensation for the injuries and hospitalization.”
