In the Article, Dr. Trasorras Discusses How Marketing Communications and Public Relations are Used to Control Public Opinion

TAMPA, FL / ACCESSWIRE / December 15, 2016 / Dr. RJ Trasorras, MBA, CPP and President of the Tampa Consulting Group, has just posted a thought-provoking article to his company’s website titled, “Marketing Communications, Your Brand and Public Relations Politics.”

In the article, Dr. Trasorras quotes Walter Lippman as saying “The analyst of public opinion must begin then by recognizing the triangular relationship between the scene of action, the human picture of that scene, and the human response to that picture working itself out upon the scene of action.”

Using this interesting quote as a starting point, Dr. Trasorras then asks business owners to contemplate the narratives that their companies have prepared, and how their brand is perceived in the marketplace.

“Have you recently had an issue that needs to be corrected? Or has your brand simply faded into the landscape and become a commodity?” Dr. Trasorras noted, adding that Lippman also said that access to the “real” environment must be limited before a pseudo environment can be created.

“It is with the pseudo environment that the Branding or Rebranding of the subject, and eventually public opinion, begins. Welcome to world of Social Psychology,” Dr. Trasorras noted.

Expanding upon these points, Dr. Trasorras wrote that there is no doubt that marketing communications and public relations are being used to furtively control public opinion, whether or not to purchase a product or service, or as Lippman called it, the “manufacture of consent.”

“And if you desire to control buyer behavior, you must control opinion,” he said.

“Marketing professionals of all stripes (Strategists, Communications, PR, etc.) understand it is emotion that moves you, not facts alone. So are you eliciting emotion from your potential customers? If not, what are you prepared to do? Remember, as an unknown author wrote, ‘The dogs may bark but the caravan moves on, and so do potential customers.'”
