L. Ron Hubbard’s “Battlefield Earth” dominates bestseller lists in 2016―34 years after original publication
Los Angeles, United States – January 5, 2017 /PressCable/ —
On 14 June 2016, Galaxy Press released L. Ron Hubbard’s New York Times bestselling novel “Battlefield Earth” as a multicast audiobook employing over 65 actors and 150,000 sound effects. In addition to the 47.5 hour audiobook, they also released the book as a trade paperback with cover art created by the legendary artist Frank Frazetta. Fans warmly welcomed the new editions and both the book and audiobook appeared on bestseller lists nationwide.
Three weeks following the release, both the book and audiobook both hit the #1 spot on Publishers Weekly bestseller list, while also topping Publishers Weekly Science Fiction list.
Following an Earphones Award bestowed by AudioFile Magazine, the “Battlefield Earth” audiobook went on to take the #1 spot on the Barnes & Noble science fiction list, as well as the #1 spot on Amazon.com’s science fiction list. While the book went on to take the #1 spot for science fiction in USA Today. And as of October 2016, the book was still making waves appearing on the BookWorld and Amazon bestseller lists.
Perhaps the demand for the book comes from it’s take on events that effect current society. As Sci Fi Magazine writes, “Written by L. Ron Hubbard, the 1,000-plus-page tome presciently speaks to the present turmoil in the Middle East, the ever-increasing worldwide threat of terrorism, and the heated political rhetoric currently dominating headlines in the United States… Whether reading the book or getting lost in the audio adaptation, just remember: Man may be an endangered species, but a rollicking, robust sci-fi adventure like ‘Battlefield Earth’ can live on forever.”
After hitting 9 bestseller positions for “Battlefield Earth”, it goes to show the strength of a good science fiction story.
The book can still be found front-of-store in Barnes & Noble as well as online wherever books are sold.
