San Jose Dentist Helps Youth In Guatemala

January 31, 2017 – – Dr. Steve S. Lim, DMD, FACP, with the Center for Advanced Dentistry in San Jose, California, has announced recently that he felt honored to be selected to donate one week of his time to a prestigious organization known as the Open Wide Foundation. The purpose of this humanitarian foundation is to bring the top clinicians in America to Guatemala to clinically treat underserved people.

“Even though it took time away from my family and from the patients of the practice, it was one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had in my career,” Dr. Lim states.

Dentists from the United States treated patients in a very poverty stricken city of Guatemala called Peronia. Dr. Lim observed that the majority of the people lived in stainless steel boxes where there was no running water or electricity. “Seeing the living conditions of the children broke my heart and made me appreciate living in the Bay Area,” Dr. Lim reports. “I can truly say that this was a life changing experience in many aspects. I felt so blessed to be able to give my time and expertise to such an important cause.”

The dentists who took part in the event stated that children and family members of Peronia were very grateful for the dental services that they received. Dr. Lim further states that the trip has led to his decision to donate one full day at the Center for Advanced Dentistry to help the people in the San Jose community who cannot afford dentistry. His plan is to bring top clinicians from all over America to donate their time to help the needy of the community. This will be an annual event and will be called “Dentistry from the Heart”.
