Prostate Cancer Research And Awareness Fundraiser Scheduled For March 2017

February 28, 2017 – – The 6th annual One Man Shoot, a sporting clays competition designed to raise funds with the goal of fighting prostate cancer, has been scheduled for March 24, 2017 in Denham Springs, Louisiana. The funds collected during the event will be earmarked for research on this particular type of cancer at the Tulane Cancer Center in New Orleans. This event is hosted by the Boykin Family and Friends, in memory of Connie Mack Boykin, co-founder of the One Man Shoot.

Amy Kellogg, a spokesperson for the annual event, says: “Our goal is to raise money for increased research and awareness about cancer of the prostate. We are looking forward to spending time honoring those who have suffered from this type of cancer and doing our part to help find ways of curing this horrible disease.”

Kellogg states that free PSA testing will be offered all day during the event. The tests are available to all men who attend who are over the age of 40. This will require a small blood sample that is collected by a team of nurses. The sample will be sent to the Tulane Cancer Center and each attendee who opts in for the test will be sent a confidential report from the cancer center within a few weeks that includes information on how to interpret the results and follow up options if needed. Kellogg says that the testing is designed to help men know if they are at risk, providing them the chance for early detection. As such, the event has the goal of boosting prostate cancer research and awareness.

“Also, a new prize drawing will be offered for attendees who take the PSA test during our One Man Shoot event,” Kellogg states. “We hope that all men who join us who are within the age range will take the test. It is quick and easy and could possibly save a life.”

The goal of the organization responsible for the event is to make a difference in fighting prostate cancer. Kellogg says that this cancer affects many men in the nation and early detection can greatly improve the chance of fighting the disease effectively.
