Digital Coaching Solution Selected a “Solver” at MIT Supported Competition at United Nations: Winning Smartphone App Will Assess, Intervene, and Engage People at Risk for Diabetes and Obesity

WEST PALM BEACH, FL / ACCESSWIRE / March 21, 2017 / On March 7, 2017 board-certified endocrinologist Reza Yavari, M.D. presented live at the United Nations, New York City during the Massachusetts of Technology (MIT) supported Solve competition, along with other finalists addressing topics of worldwide significance. Dr. Yavari’s digital coaching application, created in collaboration with MedScience Research Group of West Palm Beach, empowers primary care physicians to better address obesity and diabetes. The app idea was selected a winner in the category of chronic diseases by an esteemed international panel of industry expert judges.

Finalists were judged on the novelty, feasibility, impact, and quality of their proposals. The best solutions presented at the U.N. were selected as “Solvers.” These winning ideas will each receive support from the Solve community and be featured prominently at Solve at MIT in May 2017.

“We offer an affordable, scalable digital platform that enables individuals to lose weight and reduce diabetes risk anytime, anywhere, without the need of medical equipment, specialized delivery sites, or healthcare professionals,” says Yale based Dr. Yavari, founder and CEO of Beyond Care LLC, a leading lifestyle management company in Connecticut.

With the continual focus on saving the health system costs, new and innovative methods of actively treating, and not merely raising awareness about, obesity and diabetes are crucial. By 2025, it is estimated that the number of U.S. adults with diabetes will exceed 50 million. The annual cost of diabetes in the U.S. alone will surpass the total yearly healthcare expenditure of $3 trillion.

Dr. Yavari’s proposal, “A Digital Platform For Automated Self-Coaching For Obesity & Diabetes,” is a collaborative project with Troy Grogan, President and CEO of MedScience Research Group of West Palm Beach, Florida. “With MedScience’s efforts, we hope to quickly roll out our digital lifestyle change program in physicians’ offices and other sites and reach many patients at risk of diabetic and obesity complications.”

“This noninvasive, cost effective application will provide patients and their physicians access to resources employed by highly-trained practitioners at a fraction of the cost of current intensive behavioral therapy programs for weight loss and diabetes management,” says Grogan. The smartphone application will offer scientifically validated noninvasive screening, predicative weight loss targets and digital coaching, including nutrition intervention, exercise and behavior modification counseling.
