On March 29th Whole Foods Market is teaming up with MEVO (Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization) to support environmental education and sustainability. Whole Foods Market has generously selected MEVO as the recipient of their Community Giving Day. As part of Whole Foods Market’s deep commitment to its communities, all stores in Bergen County including Ridgewood, Paramus, Closter, and Edgewater will donate 5% of the day’s net sales to support MEVO’s environmental work. By shopping at Whole Foods this Wednesday, everyone can contribute to MEVO’s mission to inspire and empower people to create a more sustainable future.

MEVO carries out sustainability projects across Northern New Jersey and Lower New York State such as cleaning up illegal trash dumping throughout the indigenous community of the Ramapough Lunaape Nation, to creating community farms, raising honeybee hives, and building miles of low-impact hiking trails. Since MEVO was founded in 2008, they have mobilized over 5,000 volunteers of all ages to carry out over 50,000 hours of environmental community service at over 250 environmental volunteer events.

The proceeds from Whole Foods Market’s 5% Community Giving Day will directly support the construction of a greenhouse at MEVO’s Fresh Roots Farm at Campgaw Reservation in Mahwah, NJ. Fresh Roots Farm strives to practice a sustainable method of farming which includes water conservation techniques, permaculture design principles, and soil building practices. It functions as a community space which provides volunteer opportunities and environmental education for people of all ages and economic backgrounds. Building a greenhouse will provide MEVO with a space in which to start seedlings, extend their growing season, and ensure the success of their crops this season.

They look forward to seeing everyone at Whole Foods Market this Wednesday March 29th!
