Ovarian Cancer Lawsuits Raise Questions About Talc
April 11, 2017 – – The number of ovarian cancer lawsuits filed in the United States against the manufacturer of talcum powder products over the past five years is staggering at best. A representative for a consumer information website says that not only are these harrowing trials because of their very existence, but that they raise questions about the safety of some regularly used products.
“People want to know that the products they are using are safe,” says a representative for www.talcumpowder.org. “They want to know that they can trust the companies that manufacture and market these products and this just doesn’t seem to be the case in many of these lawsuits regarding talcum powder.”
The lawsuits all hinge against Johnson & Johnson for Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower, both of which have been on the market for decades. Allegations against the company state that the talc used in those products can lead to the development of ovarian cancer and women who have developed this disease, who have also used either product over the course of many years, want answers as to why they are dealing with these issues.
“Of course people want answers,” says the spokesperson for talcumpowder.org. “You never want to believe that a trusted company neglected to offer information that could have saved your life. You want to know that you can trust the people that you are buying from and in these cases, that’s just not what has happened.”
Allegations against Johnson & Johnson state that the company willingly withheld information or neglected to pay attention to research data that has been years in the making. Studies consistently show that the use of talc on the genital area can lead to the development of ovarian cancer. Claimants in these cases are suing for monetary damages and many are left to wonder why those products in question are still on the shelves. Johnson & Johnson is currently gearing up for yet another court trial and the company has already settled with plaintiffs both in and out of court for millions of dollars. Experts believe that those numbers will skyrocket before the last lawsuit gets its day in court.
